1. DESCRIPTION OF JEWEL.

  OBVERSE OF JEWEL

A quality silver Compass and Square Past Master's neck Jewel.

The Jewel comprises of a normal Compass and Square, with a suspended "G".

The top portion of the compass has engraving of a celtic design.

The Jewel is suspended from a small gilt plaque which depicts a Compass and Square, with the name and number of the Lodge, "Victoria Lodge No. 212" in white enamel on the circumference.

 

REVERSE OF JEWEL

The reverse of the Jewel bears the inscription :

"Presented to

W.Bro.........................P.M.

by the Brethren of Victoria

Masonic Lodge No. 212

Dundalk,

Worshipful Master ........ & ........

January ........."

The Maker's Mark on the reverse of Jewel is "SG".

        2.  SHORT HISTORY OF WARRANT                                     No. 212.  

 

Warrant No. 212 issued to brethren in KINSALE, Co. Cork, on the 2nd August 1750 but was removed to The ROYAL DOWNSHIRE MILITIA, on the 10th January 1795 to be subsequently cancelled by Order of Grand Lodge on the 7th October 1813.

Warrant No. 212 reissued to brethren in GLENAVY, Co. Antrim, on the 4th June 1818, in lieu of Warrant No. 428. Warrant No. 212 was cancelled on the 6th February 1845.

Warrant No. 212 reissued to `Lodge of Mona' in CASTLETOWN, Isle of Man on the 8th June 1857 and was Sent in on the 6th December 1888.

 3. HISTORY OF VICTORIA LODGE No. 212.

1897 - TODATE

 

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 1st March 1897 show concerning Warrant No. 212 -

"1 March, 1897 - Read Memorial from Bros. Logan, Morrison, Whan and eight others praying for a Warrant to establish a Lodge in Dundalk. Recommended by Lodges 352, 354 and 411 and by the P.G. Lodge of Armagh. Regular fee enclosed.  The Board recommended the issue of a Warrant to the applicants to be numbered 212."

The Recommendation of The Board was followed,as is shown in the Grand Lodge Minutes of 4th March 1897 as "Confirmed"

Warrant No. 212 re-issued to Dundalk, Co. Louth as “Victoria Lodge” on the 8th March, 1897 with Robert P.T. Logan (47) as W.M.; Francis S. Morrison (384) as S.W. and Samuel Whan (384) as J.W., registered along with eight others, six from Saint John's Lodge No. 384, registered on the 8th March, 1897.

The Lodge was named "Victoria" in honour of H.R.H. Queen Victoria who in 1897 celebrated her Diamond Jubilee on the Throne

        MENU CARD FOR FESTIVE BOARD AFTER LODGE WAS CONSTITUTED ON 27TH APRIL 1897.

 

A total of 34 brethren registered up to 23rd October, 1900.

 In most cases the dates when the degrees were conferred and the issue of certificates is shown.

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 3rd May 1897 show concerning Lodge No. 212 -

"3 May, 1897 – Read an Application from Victoria Lodge 212 Dundalk for permission to adopt as a device for the apron a Silver Crown.  That device being used by Lodge 4 Dublin the Board cannot approve of its adoption."

Victoria Lodge No. 212 was represented at the Memorial Service, conducted on 10th October, 1910 by the Lord Primate in St. Mary's Church, Newry, in memory of the late Bro. Dr. F.C.Crossle.

Series four Vol. 13 of the extant Grand Lodge Registers shows a list of twenty-three brethren clearly transcribed, including their occupations, from the previous volume. A total of 102 brethren registered up to 25th September, 1923.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Three members served of Victoria Lodge No. 212 in the 1914 -18 War and all returned.

Series five Vol. 18 shown as Vol. 2 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of William T.J. Lambert, Clerk, registered 25th March, 1924.

A total of 54 brethren registered up to 9th December, 1952.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Series six Vol. 21 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of Goodlett J.E. Wilson, Marine Engineer, registered 19th June, 1953.

A total of 19 brethren registered up to 1st May, 1973.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Victoria Lodge No. 212 celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1997.

In 2008 The Worshipful Master and Officers of Victoria Lodge No. 212 were invited to the Isle of Man by the Members of Mona Lodge to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Lodge under the Jurisdiction of the U.G.L.E. - The said lodge being having Laboured as Lodge of Mona No. 212 under the Grand Lodge of Ireland until 6th December 1888.

In April 2008 Victoria Lodge No. 212 had the honour of the M.W. The Grand Master,George Dunlop attend their Installation Dinner.

From 1984 the registration of members of Victoria Lodge No. 212 is held, in alphabetical order, in a computerised register by Grand Lodge, Freemasons’ Hall, 17 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.  The Registration of the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Secretary of Lodges are held in separate Registers, the first Volume covering the period 1983 to 1994 inclusive and the second Volume covering from 1995 to date.
