1. DESCRIPTION OF JEWEL.

 Triumph Masonic Lodge No. 518

OBVERSE OF JEWEL

A silver Past Master's Jewel.

The Jewel is suspended from two ornate silver bars and a sky blue ribbon.

The Jewel itself is made of a silver Compass, Square and a fixed "G".

An enamel plaque is centred on the ribbon, with a picture of a herald with the Coat of Arms of ulster on his chest. The name of the Lodge, "Triumph Masonic Lodge", is on the circumference of the plaque and the number of the Lodge, "No. 518" is below the herald.

Below the the number of the Lodge is, from left to right, a five pointed star, aCompass and Square and a hand and Trowel.

2.  SHORT HISTORY OF WARRANT      No. 518.  

 

Warrant No. 518 issued to brethren in DUBLIN on the 2nd February 1775. By 1779 they had taken the name `The High Knight Templars of Ireland Lodge'. Grand Lodge Minute of 5th April 1781 notes:- "Wt. 518 some time erased, was this day produced and instantly destroyed."

Warrant No. 518 reissued to Chas. McAllister, Thos. McAllister and Fras. Rodgers to form a Lodge in TAMLAGHT, Kilrea, Co. Londonderry on the 2nd March 1809.Warrant No. 518 was Cancelled on the 4th July 1822 for non-payment of arrears to Grand Lodge.

3.  HISTORY OF TRIUMPH        LODGE No. 518.  

 

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 30th May 1921 show concerning Warrant No. 518 -

"30 May, 1921 - Read Memorial from various Brethren praying for a warrant to establish a Lodge in Ballymacarrett in the County of Down to be called the Triumph. – Recommended."

The Recommendation of The Board was followed,as is shown in the Grand Lodge Minutes of 2nd June 1921a"Confirmed"

Warrant No. 518 reissued to William C. Leeburn (Lodge 97), James McCaw (Lodge 135) and Robert Clarke (Lodge 135) to form `Triumph Lodge' in Freemasons' Hall, BALLYMACARRET, BELFAST on the10th June 1921.

Series four Vol. 16 shown as Volume 4a of the extant Grand Lodge Registers shows:-

"Warrant No. 518 to Ballymacarrett as “Triumph Lodge” 10 June, 1921.William C. Leaburn, Merchant Tailor (97); James McCaw, Headmaster (135) and Robert Clarke, Clerk (135) registered along with ten others 10 June, 1921."

An Occasional Grand Lodge of the Province [of Down] was held Freemasons’ Hall, Newtownards Road, Belfast, on Tuesday 28th June 1921 for the purpose of Constituting “Triumph” Masonic Lodge No. 518.

"The Lodge was opened on the First Degree.

The Occasional Grand Lodge of the Province was officered as follows:-

W. Bro. Wm. Scott acting P.G.I.G.

W. Bro. Sam Leighton, acting P.G. Org.

The Roll was called and the attendances and apologies of Provincial Officers recorded.

The notice convening the meeting was read

The Constitution ceremony was then proceeded with by the Grand Master and Provincial Officers and “Triumph” Masonic Lodge No. 518 declared to be at Labour. The Worshipful Master and other Officers of the new Lodge were duly installed and saluted.

The Grand Master delivered a short and appropriate address to the Brethren and wished the new Lodge every success.

A cordial vote of thanks was passed to the Grand Master and Officers.

The Lodge was then closed Peace, Love and Harmony prevailing.

The members of the new Lodge afterwards entertained the Provincial Grand Master and Grand Officers."

Series five Vol. 19 shown as Vol. 3 of the extant Grand Lodge Registers  commences with the registration on affiliation of William R. McKee, Relief Clerk, 136, registered here 31st January 1923.

A total of 36 brethren registered up to 30th May 1923.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

A total of 24 brethren registered up to 30th May 1929.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Series five Vol. 19 shown as Vol. 3 of the extant Grand Lodge Register re-commences with the registration of Robert C.G.C. Acheson, Surgeon Dentist, registered 23rd September 1931.

A further 62 brethren registered up to 24th September 1952.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Warrant No. 518 was Removed to Freemasons' Hall, ROSETTA, BELFAST in 1932.

Series six Vol. 22 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of F.[A.B.]R., Engineer, registered 25th February 1953.

A total of 75 brethren registered up to 22nd February 1984.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

From 1984 the registration of members of Triumph Masonic Lodge No. 518 is held, in alphabetical order, in a computerised register by Grand Lodge, Freemasons’ Hall, 17 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.  The Registration of the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Secretary of Lodges are held in separate Registers, the first Volume covering the period 1983 to 1994 inclusive and the second Volume covering from 1995 to date.
