OBVERSE OF JEWEL
A nice example of a fret cut silver gilt Past Master's Jewel.
The Jewel is suspended from two silver gilt bars and a sky blue ribbon.
The Jewel itself is made of a silver Compass, Square and letter "G" mounted on a silver gilt disc, the circumference of which bears the legend "Lodge Leinster 387".
REVERSE OF JEWEL
The reverse of the Jewel bears the inscription :
"Presented to
W:Bro: A.H. Lowe
for Services Rendered
as W.M.
for the Year 1947"
The Maker's Mark on the reverse of Jewel is "T&Co."."
Separate from the Past Master's Jewel above I came across the Lodge Name plaque and a "Past Master's collar Jewel" shown below of Leinster Lodge No. 387.
I believe the plaque shown here may have been attached to a collar in the area just above where the large Jewel would have been suspended.
The "Past Master's" collar Jewel would, I believe have been worn on a collar similar in the manner to that of a Past Master's collar Jewel in English Constitution. This "collar" Jewel also belonged to Bro. Lowe.
To show you the size of the jewel I have included below a picture of the "collar" Jewel next to the Past Master's breast Jewel, which is a standard size Jewel.

2. SHORT HISTORY OF WARRANT No. 387.
Warrant No. 387 issued to brethren in CASTLEDAWSON, Co. Londonderry on the 2nd December 1762.Warrant No. 387 was cancelled on the 4th July 1822.

3. HISTORY OF LEINSTER LODGE No. 387.
The Minutes of Grand Lodge dated 2nd October 1851 show concerning Warrant No. 387 -
"2 October, 1851 – Read a Memorial signed by 4 registered Irish Masons and 2 Members of English Lodges praying for Warrant to be granted to them to hold a Lodge in Malta. The Board recommend that a Warrant be granted to Memorialists. Agreed to."
Warrant No. 397 reissued to `Leinster Lodge' in MALTA on the 21st November 1851.

The Right Worshipful Sir John MacNeill, J.G.W.
And other the Right Worshipful Officers and Members of the Grand Lodge of Ireland in open Grand Lodge assembled.
Whereas our trusty and Well-beloved Brethren have Besought us that we would be pleased to Erect a Lodge of Freemasons at Malta of such persons who, by their knowledge in Masonry, may contribute to the true advancement thereof - We therefore having nothing more at heart than the prosperity of Masonry, and reposing special confidence in our said trusty and well-beloved Brethren, Do by these Presents constitute and appoint them, the said Edward Gresham, Edward Wright, and Duncan McArthur, to be Master and Wardens of a Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, to be holden in Malta aforesaid by them and their successors lawfully admitted in said Lodge for ever.
And we do hereby grant unto them and their Successors full Power and Authority to proceed from time to time to the election of a new Master and Wardens in said Lodge.
Provided always that they, said Edward Gresham, Edward Wright, and Duncan McArthur, and their Successors, Do and Shall at all times hereafter pay implicit observance to, and act and conduct the affairs of the same in strict conformity to the now existing Laws of Masonry, and to such other Laws and Regulations for the Government of the Craft as shall at any time hereafter be issued by the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ireland, or in default thereof, then and in such care, reserving unto the said Right Worshipful Grand Lodge the full power and authority of annulling and cancelling these Presents, or otherwise proceeding in the premises as to them shall seem meet.
In witness thereof we have herein set our Hands and Seal of Office at Dublin, the Metropolis of Ireland, this twenty-first day of November, in the year of our Lord God 1851, and of Masonry 5851.

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 4th April 1853 show concerning Lodge No. 387 -
"4 April, 1853 – Read a Communication from Lodge 387, Malta, stating that since their opening in January, 1852 the 3 Lodges meeting in Malta under the English Constitution have refused to recognise them as regular Masons or permit any of the Members of 387 to attend their Meetings. They request therefore that the Grand Lodge of Ireland will take such steps as they may deem expedient to place Lodge No. 387 on its proper footing and establish its rights as a regular and properly constituted Lodge of Freemasons. The Board recommend that a communication be made to the Grand Lodge of England on this subject. At the same time they beg to draw the attention of the Grand Lodge to the circumstances of their having had for some time past no Representation at the Grand Lodge of England and recommend that such Representative be appointed without any further delay. G.L.M. 7 April, 1853 – Agreed to."
This issue was obviously resolved at that time and all the Sister Constitutions have excellent relations.
Second series Vol. 3 of the G.L. Register shows Edw. Greshan (325); Edw. Wright (325) and Duncan McArthur (588 EC) registered 21st November 1851.
A total of 324 brethren registered up to 16th December 1859.
Series three Vol. 9 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with nine brethren shown as registered prior to 1st November 1860 then a line across the page.Registrations then commence with Adam Orlopp registered 7th September 1860.
A total of 832 brethren registered up to 23rd June 1901. In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown.A number of the brethren are marked “military”.
Twelve members of Leinster Lodge No. 387 served in the 1914 -18 War and Bros. F.J. Brown, W.J. Bunday, T. Cocks, T. Davies, E.G. Fey, G.W. Howe, J. Hulse, G.W. Smith, C.A. Thacker and J.W. Wenman, made the supreme sacrifice.
A total of 527 brethren registered up to 8th January 1924. In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.
The vast bulk of the brethren registered in this volume are from a naval background.
Series five Vol. 19 shown as Vol. 3 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of William C. Cowdrey, Mate War Dept. Vessel, registered 19th January 1924.
A total of 305 brethren registered up to 7th October 1952. In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation and naval and military rank of the brother.
Series six Vol. 22 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of Robert D. Lindsay, Flt. Lt. RAF, registered 17th February 1953.
A total of 275 brethren registered up to 8th May 1984. In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation and in many cases the Service rank of the brother.
The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 17th May 1967 show concerning Lodge No. 387 -
"17 May, 1967 – Read request from Lodges Nos. 273 and 387 Malta, to have joint resident membership in the event of temporary lack of Candidates due to the reduction of Service personnel. The Board agreed."
The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 10th May 1984 show concerning Lodge No. 387 -
"10 May, 1984 – The Board considered a design submitted by Leinster Lodge No. 387, Malta for which approval for use as the Lodge logo was requested. The Board approved this request."
From 1984 the registration of members of Leinster Lodge No. 387 is held, in alphabetical order, in a computerised register by Grand Lodge, Freemasons’ Hall, 17 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. The Registration of the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Secretary of Lodges are held in separate Registers, the first Volume covering the period 1983 to 1994 inclusive and the second Volume covering from 1995 to date.
