1. DESCRIPTION OF JEWEL.

 OBVERSE OF JEWEL

A superb quality gold Compass and Square Past Master's neck Jewel.

The Jewel comprises of a normal Compass and Square, which is gold, with a suspended "G", which is also gold. The handle of the Square is engraved with five  shamrocks, and the Compass with five on each leg, totaling fifteen.

The engraving is of the highest quality.

 REVERSE OF JEWEL

 The reverse of the Jewel bears the inscription :

"Presented to

W.Bro. James T. Liddy W.M.

by the Brethren

of the Lodge 614

on his vacating the chair

January 1931"

The Maker's Mark on the reverse of Jewel is "J.W".

2.  SHORT HISTORY OF WARRANT      No. 614.  

 

Warrant No. 614 issued to brethren in CASTLEFIN, Co. Donegal, on the 6th March 1783 and Warrant No. 614 was subsequently Cancelled on the 6th July 1815.

3.  SHORT HISTORY OF SPECTAMAR AGENDO LODGE No. 614.  

 

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 31st October 1927  and 16th November 1927 show concerning Warrant No. 614 -

"31 October, 1927 – Met Board - Read Memorial from various brethren praying for a warrant to establish a Lodge in Dublin in the County of Dublin to be called the Spectamur Agendo.  Recommended" 

"16 November, 1927 - Read Memorial from various praying for a warrant to establish a Lodge in Dublin in the County of Dublin to be called the Spectamur Agendo.  Recommended."

The Recommendation of The Board was followed,as is shown in the Grand Lodge Minutes of 1st December 1927 as "Confirmed"

Warrant No. 614 reissued to `Spectamur Agendo Lodge' (Motto of the old Royal Dublin Fusiliers) in Freemasons Hall, MOLESWORTH STREET, DUBLIN on the 15th December 1927.

Series five Vol. 20 shown as Vol. 5 of the extant Grand Lodge Registers shows:-

"Warrant No. 614 to Dublin as “Spectamur Agendo Lodge”, 15 December, 1927 - Allen Guest, Civil Servant; Percival H. Benwell, Builder’s Clerk and James T. Liddy, Solicitor’s Assistant, all from Lodge No. 730, together with ten others, eight being from Lodge No. 730, registered 15 December, 1927."

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 21st November 1928 show concerning Lodge No. 614 -

"21 November, 1928 – Read letter from Lodge 614, Dublin submitting design of Founders Jewel for approval.  Approved."

A total of 95 brethren registered up to 1st November 1952.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

Series six Vol. 23 of the extant Grand Lodge Register commences with the registration of Herbert N. Davies, Electrical Engineer, registered 1st May 1953.

A total of 64 brethren registered up to 7th December 1981.  In most cases the dates when the issue of certificates is shown, together with the occupation of the brother.

The Minutes of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes dated 13th November 1997 show concerning Warrant No. 614 -

"13 November, 1997 - The Board noted with regret for reporting to Grand Lodge the decision of the Brethren of Lodge No. 614 Dublin to return the Warrant to Grand Lodge."

The Minutes of Grand Lodge of the 4th December 1997 show in regard to the return of Warrant No. 614 from Spectamur Agendo Lodge No. 614 - "Confirmed"

Warrant No. 614 was returned to Grand Lodge in December, 1997.
