2.  SHORT HISTORY OF WARRANT      No. 649.

Warrant No. 649 issued to Brethren in DRUMAHAIRE, Co. Leitrim in 1786.

The Brethren must have ceased Labour at some time as an entry in Seton's handwriting in the Grand Lodge Register shows "BRIDGETOWN, Island of Barbados". This does not appear to be an official issue of the Warrant as Warrant No. 649 subsequently appeared in the 1801list of Erased Lodges.

Warrant No. 649 was on the Roll of the Grand East of Ireland, from 27th December 1806, and on and up till 6th December 1809.

It appears the Brethren to whom the Warrant issued were not aware of the status of the Warrant when it issued from The Grand Lodge of Ulster. They rectified the situation by applying to Grand Lodge in December 1809 to have Warrant No. 649 officially issue from Grand Lodge and Warrant No. 649 reissued to Willm. Bingham, Rochd. Coates and Robt. Wightman to form a Lodge in RAFFREY, Crossgar, Co. Down on the 4th January 1810. Warrant No. 649 was Cancelled on the 1st August 1839 but quickly Restored on the 5th March 1840. Warrant No. 649 was Cancelled by Grand Lodge on the 4th July 1850 for non-payment of Arrears.

[The above represents the barest of facts relating to Warrant No. 649 before same reissued to Alexandraville Lodge No. 649 - the IRISH MASONIC RECORDS cd-rom gives a very full account of the Lodges who held Warrant No. 649 for the years setout above]
